Basic Rigging for an Islamorada Flyer Lure:
Small Islamorada Flyer
When rigging the small Islamorada Flyer, you will need a 6/0 long shank J hook, a bead and a quarter ounce weight. The suggested layout is seen in the image above. The weight should lay inside the head with the hook laying towards the end of the skirt. Your leader line should be no longer 5 feet with a crimped loop on the end which connects to your snap swivel. The suggested line weight for the small Islamorada Flyer is 80# fishing for Mahi and 40# fishing for smaller Tunas. Keep in mind, when fishing you always want to match your line to what works best for you, a heavier leader might be necessary depending on what you are fishing for.
Large Islamorada Flyer
When rigging the large Islamorada Flyer, you will need a 8/0 long shank J hook, two beads and a half ounce weight. The suggested layout is seen in the image above. The weight should lay inside the head with the hook laying towards the end of the skirt. Your leader line should be no longer 5 feet with a crimped loop on the end which connects to your snap swivel. The suggested line weight for the large Islamorada Flyer is 100#-125# fishing for larger Pelagic species. Keep in mind, when fishing you always want to match your line to what works best for you, a heavier leader might be necessary depending on what you are fishing for.
